Thank you for visiting RonMooney.net
You will begin to see me post items of current interest and my thoughts on where we need to head as a community.
Money ~ Budget While the State of California revenues have dropped and education funding has sustained a major hit I think Alameda schools will not be forced to make drastic cuts as in the past. Right now, thanks to the wonderful Alameda community that passed, and continues to support Measures A and H, our school parcel taxes it does not seem that we will need to make significant cuts in the 2009—2010 school year. We do have significant challenges ahead, now that California is ranked 52nd for per student funding education in the United States. {52nd ? Yes, hint behind District of Columbia …)
New Superintendent ~ Kirsten Vital I am very impressed with our new Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kirsten Vital. I hope you have or do meet Kirsten as she visits schools nearly everyday.
As most know we have some wonderful schools, wonderful staff and community. Thank goodness for Measure H or we would already have had to make devastating cuts to our schools. I have been advocating for a “Master Plan” - a vision for our schools, a cohesive, exciting, bold plan that will allow all to understand our vision and goals.
We must be able to show how we are pressing for excellence in all of our schools. We must be able to specifically demonstrate how we are addressing our achievement gaps and the plans and decisions made using the equity and excellence lenses.
